It is crucial for more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, including those involved in protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. Magnesium also plays a significant role in the synthesis of DNA and RNA, energy production, and the structural development of bones.

Modern uses of magnesium supplementation often focus on addressing deficiencies that can lead to various health issues such as muscle cramps, fatigue, hypertension, and osteoporosis. Research indicates that magnesium can help manage conditions like migraine headaches, cardiovascular diseases, and type 2 diabetes. Another study in the Egyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics suggested that magnesium and vitamin D supplementation could serve as an adjunctive therapy to improve behavioural outcomes in children with ADHD (EMRO, 2016).
